A Dress for Colette

Here's a little dress I made for my soon to be born Great-Neice Colette. I highly underestimated how long it would take to make such a small thing! I haven't sewn any clothes in quite awhile and I forgot how long it takes when you're trying to make the inside as pretty as the outside. There was more hand sewing to finish the bodice lining than I thought, too. I was pleased with the outcome. Because it took me so long, I didn't have time to make the little hat and diaper cover that goes with it before the baby shower. I still plan to make those, so I'll post them later.

Baby Shower Gift - Pinterest found

From Pinterest

One of my neices is due to have a baby in a couple of weeks. This past weekend we had a baby shower for her. I adapted an idea I saw on Pinterest because it is adorable. It's a different take on the baby shower diaper cake idea that's been going around for a long time. I loved it. This is my version.

My neice loved it, too!
I have some directions on how to do this if anyone is interested. Just let me know!

Crafts from the Past -01

I've got this china cabinet that belonged to my husband's mother. She passed away when he was just 18 years old, so he kind of wanted to hold on to something that was hers. When we moved into our house a few years ago, we unfortunately broke some of the glass on the doors. After that, I tried to do something creative to it. Last year at Christmas, I made inserts wrapped with bright candy-cane striped wrapping paper to put in the doors. It was festive. This year, just before Thanksgiving I decided to make chalkboard inserts. I took 1/4" plywood cut to fit the doors and painted them with chalboard paint. I love them. We just draw or write whatever suits us at the moment. This photo is a random shot from recently. (Yes, that is a drawing of a flying saucer....it just struck me one day to draw it - don't know why.)

Karaoke Night at Home

My daughter is Captain of the Rifle Team at school this year and decided to have a Karaoke Party for her team. I remembered seeing some awesome cupcakes on Martha Stewart (which I pinned on Pinterest) and decided this would be a good time to make some. The photo above is my version. The one below is from Martha Stewart's website.

I love the little popcorn looking cupcake holders, but I didn't have time to order any, so I just made my own. I found some cups that weren't actually baking cups, but they looked like they would do the trick and I was right. I got them at Party City.

I bought some real popcorn boxes at the grocery store, because I also wanted to serve popcorn to the kids.
I found a font that looked similiar to the same as the one on the popcorn boxes I purchased and printed my own little sleeves for the cupcakes. It was fairly simple to get the size right and print my own. Click here to download my version.

We took the little miniature marshmallows and used a knife to make imprints on them that looked like popcorn. I kind of pinched them at the same time to make them bulb out a little bit, too.
Then I used a bit of food coloring spray to add "kernels" to the popcorn.

Then we just 'popped' those little marshmallows onto the top of the iced cupcakes and slipped the little sleeves onto the cups and voila!
They actually tasted pretty good, too!

Gotta Start Somewhere

So, I got addicted to Pinterest and decided to face my addiction head on. Why go to support groups and listen to others droll on and on about missing work because they couldn't get off the Pinterest? I decided to at least put some of my new-found interest to some good use. Maybe in the process I'll inspire others, too.

If you like what you see and want to comment, I invite you to do so and thanks for stopping by.
